The Key to a Changed Heart
"Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." Psalm 51:10 (NIV)
The Key to a Changed Heart
I’ve been reflecting on something lately, something I want to share with you again because it’s a truth worth remembering. It’s a desire that echoes David’s prayer in Psalm 51: “Create in me a clean heart, O God.” I want to see a true change of heart within me. But here's something I’ve come to realize—and it’s important: I cannot change my heart. Only God can do that.
However, there is something I can do. I can change my mind. And when I do that, God will step in and change my heart. He won’t force my thoughts to change, but if I choose to renew my mind, He will transform my heart.
That’s the key: changing my mind and allowing God to work in my heart. When I say, “Lord, I’m ready to think differently, to behave differently, and to live differently,” He is faithful to bring about the change I long for. It’s not about striving to change your heart on your own—that’s God’s job. It’s about choosing to shift your mindset and inviting Him to do the work only He can do within you.
So, as you walk through today, remember this truth: You cannot change your heart, but you can change your mind. And when you do, God will transform your heart. That’s His promise. That’s the truth.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
