Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes
"Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand." Isaiah 64:8 (NIV)
Nothing Changes If Nothing Changes
Nothing changes if nothing changes. It’s a simple truth, but one that can challenge us deeply. Most of us don’t like change. We prefer things to be comfortable, predictable, and easy. But if we want to be more like Jesus, if we desire to become the people He’s called us to be, change is necessary.
In Jeremiah 48, God speaks to Moab, saying that Moab has become sour, like undrinkable wine, because it hasn’t been poured from vessel to vessel. The sediments, the impurities, were left to settle, and Moab took on a bitter taste. In the same way, when we resist change, we become stagnant. We settle into our comfort zones and, over time, can take on a sour taste.
But when we allow God to pour us from vessel to vessel, we are transformed. The sediments of sin, complacency, and bitterness are left behind, and we are refined. It’s not always easy, but change is necessary for growth. We need to be willing to say, “Lord, pour me,” not with a complaint of “poor me,” but with a heart of surrender: “Pour me, Lord, stir me up, and make whatever changes are needed.”
Nothing changes if nothing changes. But when we embrace the process, God works sweetness and holiness into us, making us more like Jesus.
So today, let this be our prayer: "Pour me, Lord, from vessel to vessel. Shape me, mold me, and change me however You see fit, because I know that true transformation only happens when I allow You to work in my life."
In Jesus' name, Amen.
