God's Guidance in Choosing Life's Path

Genesis 24:12
"O Lord, the God of my master, Abraham," he prayed. "Please give me success today, and show unfailing love to my master, Abraham."

Perhaps my favorite memory of watching my son Jackson grow up, is the many times he turned to his mother and said, "Mom, do you think I am making a wise decision?". Touches my heart every time I think about it. For whatever reason, he was especially sensitive to seeking our guidance before making a big decision. It wasn't that he lacked assertiveness, but rather that he wanted to avoid the gross feeling of regret. This is one of many areas I wish I was more like my kids. Jackson developed a habit of looking for guidance along the way.

Genesis 24 paints a vivid picture of seeking God's guidance. Abraham's servant is given the critical task of finding a wife for Isaac. Unsure of the path ahead, the servant prays for God's guidance. His prayer is a humble request for signs, a testament of his faith that God will lead him to the right decision.

As parents, it's crucial to emphasize the importance of seeking God's guidance in decision-making to our children. You can demonstrate this by openly seeking God's direction in family decisions and praying with your child about their own choices, large and small.

Every major product purchase, every unsure step, every decision your child makes is an opportunity to reinforce this message: like Abraham's servant, we can ask for God's guidance, confident in His unfailing love and provision. Let these moments be a reminder that God's divine GPS is always accessible through prayer.
