Dealing With Impatience

Genesis 16:2 (New Living Translation) "So Sarai said to Abram, 'The LORD has prevented me from having children. Go and sleep with my servant. Perhaps I can have children through her.' And Abram agreed with Sarai's proposal."

Picture this: you're in the middle of a video game, and the next level just seems out of reach. After countless tries, you're tempted to find a cheat code online instead of facing the challenge head-on. This situation parallels Sarai's story in Genesis 16.

Sarai, just like Abram, was waiting on God's promise of a child. As the years rolled on, she grew impatient and decided to take matters into her own hands. Instead of waiting on God's perfect timing, she offered her servant to Abram, hoping to fulfill God's promise through her own means.

This story underscores the importance of patience, especially when it comes to God's promises. It's natural to want quick solutions, especially when we're anxious or doubtful. But Sarai's story teaches us that shortcuts can lead to unintended complications. When we're tempted to rush God's plans, let's remember to practice patience and trust in His perfect timing.

Pause & Pray:

1. Ask God for the patience to wait on His timing, especially when you're tempted to take shortcuts.
2. Pray for strength to trust in God's promises, even when they seem impossible.
3. Ask God for wisdom to discern His will and to avoid making decisions out of impatience or fear.
